MBCCUCC was founded in 1983, to be a welcoming community church in the Malletts Bay area of Colchester, VT. We worshiped first in the roller skating rink, and then in a school cafeteria, and built our current building on West Lakeshore Drive in 1991.
That whole time, a few central values have been the foundation of this community: we share a welcoming family atmosphere where worship, prayer, and discernment is at the core of everything we do.
We strive to be faithful followers on Christ's way -- both in our words and in our actions. We are directly involved in community-based social service projects, both through giving financial support and through donating our time and energy and abilities where we can. We are a diverse community, with members who grew up just down the street as well as members from far-flung places like Japan, France, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our many voices and backgrounds create a richness and depth to our experience of worship together.
Education and critical thinking are important here: Malletts Bay is not a place where you have to check your brain at the door! We hold diverse opinions in this community -- liberal, conservative, progressive, moderate, Democrat, Republican, other... Malletts Bay is a place where we can agree to disagree. In June 2010, the members of MBCCUCC elected to become an Open and Affirming church.
